2017 AIA Documents Released

A new set of AIA form contract documents was released last month. Every 10 years, the American Institute of Architects, the “AIA,” reviews and updates its form agreements. Initially released at this year’s AIA Conference on Architecture, the changes being touted by the AIA include a new exhibit with insurance and bond provisions transferable to many owner/contract agreements, improved communication provisions between owner, contractor and architect, clarifications requiring owner to prove finances for project and simplified payment provisions. Other new concepts of interest include availability of an appropriate “termination fee” for terminations at an owner’s convenience, and an exhibit addressing sustainable projects and the risks and responsibilities associated with taking part in them.

It will not be long before you are presented with 2017 versions of these documents on a new project. Contact Bob Watson at Eastburn and Gray, PC with any questions that you may have.
