LAND USE ALERT
On July 6, 2010, Governor Rendell signed into law broad new legislation aimed at extending building and land use (zoning, subdivision and land development) permits and approvals.
The "Permit Extension Act" applies to all permits and approvals granted under the provisions of over thirty statutes, including the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, the State Highway Law, the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act, and the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act. Approvals which would otherwise expire on or after December 31, 2008 will remain valid through July 2, 2013 under this act.
Similar legislation was enacted in New Jersey in 2008, and amended in January, 2010 to further extend the validity of most land use and construction approvals and permits through December 2012.
