Family Law

The practice of family law involves complex issues with long-term individual and family ramifications. Our attorneys are leaders in the field of Family Law; with active memberships in the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section, Bucks County Bar Association Family Law Section, Montgomery Bar Association Family Law Section and the Pennsylvania Bar Association Collaborative Law Committee.

Adoption

The adoption of a child is a legal process that involves the termination of the rights and duties of birth parents and the assumption of those rights and duties by the adopting parents. Our attorneys have extensive experience in assisting families through the adoption process.

Alimony and equitable distribution

Equitable distribution is the process of dividing marital assets. Alimony is a financial figure that may be a component of equitable distribution, depending on the individual matter. Our attorneys work with accounting and financial professionals to analyze income to determine an alimony amount that is appropriate even in the most complicated cases.

Child and spousal support

Child and spousal support obligations are determined by Pennsylvania Support Guidelines which is a formula used to calculate the proper amount of child or spousal support. Although the guidelines make the determination of the obligation relatively simple, our attorneys routinely work with clients to determine accurate incomes for the parties along with additional factors involving, school tuition, health insurance, daycare and shared custody credits.

Collaborative Law

Collaborative law is a method for people to divorce without courtroom litigation, while using legal representation to guide the process. One of our attorneys is a founding member of the Collaborative Law Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and serves as the liaison between that committee and the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section.

Custody

Custody is the schedule of time children spend with each parent as well as the right to make important decisions that impact minors including decisions regarding education, religion and medical care. Our attorneys have years of experience helping families determine their custody and visitation rights, parental relocation issues and grandparent custody situations.

Dependency proceedings

Dependency court involves the adjudication of children when child protective services becomes involved with the family. One of our attorneys is routinely appointed by the court to represent parents or serve as Guardian Ad Litem to children in these cases.

Divorce

A divorce is the dissolution of a marriage. Mediation

Mediation is an alternative form of dispute resolution to traditional, adversarial litigation. Mediation is a process for resolving conflicts with the assistance of a trained neutral mediator. Mediation allows for the parties to control the outcome, expense, and timing of their dispute resolution. The process is collaborative rather than adversarial and allows for creativity in reaching solutions. Family law mediators can assist parties to reach agreements with regard to pre-nuptial agreements, separation agreements, parenting and custody plans, support agreements, and agreements resolving all marital assets and debts.

Prenuptial agreements

A prenuptial agreement is a binding contract between two parties that is signed into effect before the marriage takes place. The prenuptial agreement is a proactive mechanism used to establish the expectations that may result if a divorce occurs. Our attorneys have significant experience drafting agreements that are specific to each client’s needs.

Protection From Abuse (PFA)

Too often, family law matters involve domestic abuse in different scenarios. In some situations, there comes a need for emergency protection from domestic violence. The purpose of the PFA is to have an enforceable order to stop future abuse.
