Attention Churches and Non-Profits: Property Tax Exemptions are NOT Automatic
Applications for Exemption Must Be Filed No Later than August 1, 2019
Properties owned by churches, religious organizations and other non-profits may qualify for a real estate tax exemption under certain circumstances but they are not automatic.
It is important to act now. In order to obtain a real estate tax exemption for the 2020 tax year, the property owner must file an application for exemption with the local board of assessment appeals. In most counties in Pennsylvania, the deadline to file for a property tax exemption in the 2020 tax year is August 1, 2019.
Eastburn and Gray has a team of lawyers that are experienced in handling exemption appeals for all types of property in many counties across the Commonwealth. They can assist churches, religious organizations and non-profits to determine if they might qualify for a property tax exemption.
