COVID-19 and Your Business
President Trump signed new legislation known as the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“the Act”) providing an economic stimulus plan to address the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak which includes a paid sick leave and an expanded family and medical leave act. The Act impacts funding for certain benefit programs; however, this summary is limited to the Act’s key provisions impacting employers. This impacts our nation’s private and public employers. The Act goes into effect April 2nd which is 15 days after President Trump signed the legislation.
The Act includes paid leave to employees who miss work because of the COVID-19 outbreak through an expansion of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and a new federal paid sick leave law.
