Marc D. Jonas, Esq. Represents One of Pennsylvania’s Largest Landfill Companies in Zoning Dispute

Marc D. Jonas, Esq. represents Keystone Sanitary Landfill in a contentious Lackawanna County zoning dispute between the landfill company and objectors, including a grass-roots group of local residents who object to the company’s long-existing landfill and proposed expansion.

Keystone Sanitary Landfill is a privately owned, 720 acre municipal solid waste landfill located in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. The landfill company provides the Borough of Dunmore with substantial host fee revenues, projected to be $2.3 million.

In a recent related judicial battle, the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County upheld Mr. Jonas’ challenge to the objectors’ petition to compel the landfill company’s experts to testify before the Dunmore Borough Zoning Hearing Board. The objectors were seeking the court’s enforcement of subpoenas issued by the zoning hearing board. The court’s denial of the objectors’ petition was a significant win for the Keystone Sanitary Landfill. Mr. Jonas heads the legal team for the landfill company, a team which includes Michael E. Peters, Esq., from Eastburn and Gray, and Jeffrey Belardi, Esq., a Scranton attorney.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Jonas has represented clients in zoning, other land use, and real estate matters. Mr. Jonas, co-chair of the Land Use and Zoning practice group at Eastburn and Gray, has been named a Leader in Real Estate/Land Use law by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. His peers have recognized him as a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer,” and he has been selected by U.S. News as a “Best Lawyer” in both Land Use and Zoning Law and Land Use and Zoning litigation for the Philadelphia Metropolitan area.
